8) STPSat-1 SHIMMER OH Data maxmize
Resource ID:spase://VSPO/NumericalData/STPSat1/SHIMMER/OH/PT1D
Start:2007-04-05 00:00:00 Observatory:STPSat-1 Cadence:24 hours
Stop:2009-09-24 00:00:00 Instrument:STPSat-1Spatial Heterodyne Imager for Mesospheric Radicals (SHIMMER) Resource:NumericalData
This dataset contains daily averaged mesospheric hydroxyl (OH) radiance profiles of solar resonance fluorescence measured near 309 nm by the Spatial Heterodyne Imager for MEsospheric Radicals (SHIMMER) onboard STPSat-1. OH data were obtained by imaging the limb every 20 s between 58N and 58S. These radiance profiles were inverted to retrieve daily averaged mesospheric OH densities between 60 and 90 km in 2 km increments. A total of 1816 OH profiles are available, 881 from the ascending (A) portion of the orbit and 935 from the descending (D) portion of the orbit. Because the satellite is moving eastward at latitudes between 50N and 58N, the profiles from the A portion are about 3 hours earlier in local solar time than the D portion in this latitude band. The OH number density profile data are stored in directories for the tropics ("0_to_15N") and for the mid-latitudes ("50N_to_58N"). See SHIMMER Data Manual for a list of missing days. They are available in ASCII format in 5 columns: altitude, OH densities, uncertainty in the OH densities (1 ?), OH radiances (uninverted intensities along the line of sight), and uncertainty in the OH radiances. In addition, there are "showstat" summary plots, in postscript files, with relevant viewing conditions for each of the six data periods (either tropics or mid-latitudes for each of the three years). Each of the figures has 6 panels that include a) Number of spectra obtained on each day, b) Solar zenith angle (SZA), c) Solar scattering angle (SSA), d) Latitude of the limb tangent point, e) Local solar time (LST) at the tangent point, and f) Altitude range of the limb observation (nominally 35-100 km, on occasion as high as 65-130 km).

9) STPSat-1 SHIMMER PMC Data maxmize
Resource ID:spase://VSPO/NumericalData/STPSat1/SHIMMER/PMC/PT1D
Start:2007-04-05 00:00:00 Observatory:STPSat-1 Cadence:24 hours
Stop:2009-09-24 00:00:00 Instrument:STPSat-1Spatial Heterodyne Imager for Mesospheric Radicals (SHIMMER) Resource:NumericalData
This dataset contains Polar Mesospheric Clouds (PMCs) observed by the Spatial Heterodyne Imager for MEsospheric Radicals (SHIMMER) onboard the STPSat-1 satellite. The PMC (primarily a summertime phenomenon) data are derived from over a million limb images during its three-year mission, minus September through November for each year. Each file has a five-line header that includes: (1) Year and day of the year (DOY), (2) Total number of PMC detected on that day, (3) The number of PMC detected when using a phase function of the ice particles, (4) Hydroxyl (OH) radiances at 80 and 87 km, and (5) Labels of the output: Year, DOY, GMT, LAT, LON, LST, SSA, SZA, PMCRAW (1 for PMC detection and 0 for none), PMCMIE (detection above the applied threshold), BGRND (average Rayleigh scattered background signal in kR/nm), BRT (background corrected peak brightness in kR/nm), THRRAW (threshold used to identify a PMC), THRPHS (threshold used to detect PMC in kR/nm), PK (altitude of the peak emission in km), OH80 (OH solar resonance fluorescence radiance detected at 80 km in kR), OHE80 (uncertainty for the 80 km OH radiance in kR), OH87 (OH solar resonance fluorescence radiance detected at 87 km in kR), and OHE87 (uncertainty for the 87 km OH radiance in kR). In addition to the PMC data, there are PMC maps and summary figures for each year of operations. The first figure for each year is map_YYYY.ps, where YYY represents the year. This shows the geographic location of each detected PMC, without regard to when it was detected. Also indicated on the maps are the total number of images tested for a PMC as well as the total number of PMC detected for each year. The second figure (summary_YYYY.ps) shows a time series of some important results of the analysis: the number of SHIMMER images tested, a time series of PMC detections for the year, a time series of thresholded PMC detections, and a time series of PMC altitudes defined as the altitude of peak brightness.
