This data set contains CRRES spacecraft attitude data that consists of a series of time-tagged coefficients from fits of attitude motion. These parameters are used with software (AGMOD) provided to the agencies to calculate their sensor LOS (line-of-sight) as a function of time.

This data set holds half-orbit (~5 hour) resolution electron distributions (19 5-deg equatorial pitch angles vs. 19 energies) from the High Energy Electron Fluxmeter (HEEF) on the CRRES spacecraft. The energy range covered is 0.3-7.5 MeV. These data are developed from the 1-min insitu pitch angle distributions by assigning each 5-deg bin in pitch angle a corresponding McIlwain L value and then by mapping the insitu pitch angle distribution to the equator, into 0.05-wide L bins, assuming first adiabatic invariant conservation. The mapping yields equivalent equatorial pitch angles. Flux data are for a given half-orbit, given 0.05-wide L bin, given equatorial pitch angle and given energy bin are then averaged. Data records are for a given half-orbit and given L bin; each record contains averaged fluxes vs. equatorial pitch angle and energy. The data are in SGI(UNIX) binary format. Read software is contained within the companion documentation.

This data set includes the electric field and convection drift information from the CRRES spacecraft. The langmuir probe instrument data is at 30 s resolution. The files include the electric field vectors, elcetric field magnitude, and the convection drift vectors from both the spherical sensors and the cylindrical antennas.

The magnetic field files (CRnnnn.FPM) contains magnetic field components converted from the CRRES tri-axial fluxgate magnetometer sensor output. This data set, however, is different from the ones on the Aerospace agency tapes. The experimenter magnetic field files (which had neither the full time resolution nor the magnetic field intensity resolution of the original magnetometer outputs) were converted to field components in magnetometer sensor coordinates using the software and final calibration coefficient files provided by the magnetometer PI (Dr. Howard Singer, SEL). The original magnetic field files for orbits 6-350 were not readilly available, but the converted files were, so for the sake of uniformity, it was decided to provide the converted files instead of the originals. For those who might wish to get back to the original data, the source code (MAGMPC5.FOR) and calibration files (MAGnn.CAL) which were used to generate the .FPM files are provided. The original CR0237.MAG file is available on CD-8 for comparison with any results of an inversion program written by the user. A program which dumps the CRnnnn.FPM files is also provided on CD-35 (FPMTEST.EXE). This program prints out the UT, three magnetic field components in magnetometer coordinates, total B, and the pitch-angle calculated for the MEA (or a user-selected set of direction cosines). The source code, FPMTEST.FOR, is also provided.

This data set contains magnetic field vectors and tilt angles from the CRRES tri-axial fluxgate magnetometer data. The magnetic field vectors are at 2 s resolution and in the Vehicle Dipole Horizon (VDH) coordinate system. Also included are the magnetic field magnitude and the tilt of the magnetic field in Theta and Phi in the VDH coordinate system.

This data set holds 1-min resolution electron distributions from the Medium Electron Sensor/Analyzer (MEA) on the CRRES spacecraft. The data consists of counting rates from 17 energy channels in the range of 0.1-2 MeV and 19 pitch angle bins at 1 minute time intervals. The average flux, 90 degree flux and N value are included. Also included are the spacecraft geographic coordinates and altitude, L shell, and the local and equatorial magnetic field magnitudes from the 1977 Olson-Pfitzer model of the earth's geomagnetic field. The raw high resolution (0.512 sec) data and documentation of raw data can be obtained via ftp from NSSDC.

This data set includes files from the "Aerospace Agency Tapes" compiled by the Aerospace Corporation for selected experiments from the CRRES raw telemetry data stream provided through three digital processing units (DPUs) supporting Aerospace-related sensors. These sensors are as follows: the Magnetospheric Ion Composition Spectrometer (MICS), Heavy Ion Telescope (HIT), Low Energy Magnetospheric Ion Composition Sensor (LOMICS), the Medium Electrons A spectrometer (MEA), the Electron and Proton Wide-Angle Spectrometer (EPAS), the Relativistic Proton Detector (RPD), the Proton Switches (PS1, PS2), and a 4-band photometer for chemical release measurements. These instruments were turned on during Orbit 6, off at Orbit 365, and on again at Orbit 416 through the end of mission at Orbit 1067. When another complement of instruments called LASSII were periodically turned on for 20-minute or one-hour intervals near perigee for ionospheric measurements, the RADSAT (magnetospheric) complement, including the Aerospace instruments, were turned off. Spacecraft ephemeris, attitude, and magnetic field data are also provided. For each ten-hour orbit of CRRES includes a set of five files is provided from the original Agency tapes: header, ephemeris, attitude, magnetic field, and the Aerospace instrument raw data file. The magnetic field files are not those provided on the original Agency tapes but include field vector components in magnetometer sensor coordinates as computed from software and final calibration coefficients provided by the CRRES magnetometer team. The instrument data are provided at raw telemetry level in complex form, and users are requested to contact the responsible experimenters concerning correct usage. The binary data are encoded 32-bit words for reading on IBM-compatible PC's; byte order may need to be reversed for usage of other systems (e.g., VMS). FORTRAN source codes with PC-executables are provided to extract selected parameters from the spacecraft and instrument file types. References to documentation for the Aerospace instruments are listed in the main readme file.
